The Computerworld Honors Program

TANDBERG is proud to be a Chairman’s Committee member of the Computerworld Honors Program, a global awards program that recognizes IT initiatives noteworthy for the originality of their conception, breadth of their vision and their impact on society.

Among hundreds of entrants, four TANDBERG customers were awarded Laureate (semi-finalist) status in the 2007 awards program. The United States Veterans Administration, Scott County Schools, San Diego County and University of California Davis each submitted case studies detailing the positive impact of TANDBERG video conferencing implementations on their organizations.

•   United States Veterans Administration Midwest Network (VISN 23)
To serve veterans who are physically or psychologically at risk, VISN 23 deployed a visual communication network for the delivery of medical services to veterans in VA clinics and in their homes. VISN 23 supports telespych for psychiatric care; teleortho for post-op follow up and consulting; and telederm for skin-related healthcare.

•   Scott County Schools
A school district in rural Tennessee with less than 3,000 students, Scott County lacked the resources to hire and retain advanced level teachers. Many required classes were held at a single facility, forcing students to bus between schools. A distance learning solution has dramatically streamlined resources, saved hours of bus travel, and still provides a face-to-face educational experience.

•   San Diego County
The communications, collaboration and information-sharing capabilities enabled by the Regional Command and Control Communications (3Cs) network has enhanced performance of first responders in the southern California area. As a joint initiative between law enforcement and fire-rescue agencies, this unified network is not only providing alternatives to radio communication, but is also encouraging agencies in the area to work together to maximize the region’s resources, especially during large-scale natural disasters or man-made incidents.

•   University of California Davis
The UC Davis Health System’s Center for Health and Technology (CHT) includes video-based consultations, store-and-forward services, emergency room and intensive care unit consultation, teleradiology, video interpreting, and telehome health. A portable satellite terminal unit that can be transported to sites, including disaster locations without land lines, enables UC Davis to provide expert consultation to individuals in remote areas. The Telemedicine Learning Center has been used to train over 1,000 attendees from more than 400 organizations worldwide in establishing telemedicine programs.
