Customer Awards 2008

Deaf Link, Inc. (Honoree)
Deaf Link provides the Deaf and those hard of hearing that rely on American Sign Language (ASL) with the ability to carry on their business and personal lives with confidence. From a supervised communication center facility, the company supplies businesses, hospitals and government agencies with ASL interpreters via internet-based video conferencing, on a 24/7 "on demand" basis. Its vision is to complement onsite interpretation currently being utilized for the Deaf community with a reliable and easy to use technology-based alternative.

Today, Deaf Link uses its TANDBERG solution to facilitate accurate and cost effective communication between Deaf customers/patients/employees, a certified ASL interpreter and the business/government agency/healthcare facility. Satisfaction with the service is high among all stakeholders.

Arizona Telemedicine Program (Honoree)
The Arizona Telemedicine Program (ATP) is a multidisciplinary clinical program of The University of Arizona Health Sciences Center. It is connected to 171 sites in 71 communities throughout the state. The program was created in 1996 to establish pilot projects demonstrating the efficacy of telemedicine in delivering better health care to Arizona's medically underserved rural areas. TANDBERG video is essential to accomplishing this mission.

Umeå University Hospital (Laureate)
The County of Västerbotten in northern Sweden stretches from the Norwegian border to the coast. This vast, rugged area, approximately the size of Denmark, is home to 255,000 people.

In 2003, hospitals in Umeå, Skellefteå and Lycksele were combined into one giant service area to ensure that all residents received the same level of care. Video plays an instrumental role in meeting that goal.

Navajo Nation (Laureate)
The Navajo Nation extends into the states of Utah, Arizona and New Mexico, covering over 27,000 square miles of unparalleled beauty. Diné Bikéyah, or Navajoland, is larger than 10 of the 50 states in America and is the largest land area assigned primarily to a Native American jurisdiction within the United States. Today, the Navajo Nation is striving to sustain a viable economy for an ever increasing population that now surpasses 250,000.

It is the educational mission of the Navajo Nation to promote and foster lifelong learning for the Navajo People, and to protect the cultural integrity and sovereignty of the Navajo Nation. Video connects the Nation's chapter houses in order to accomplish that goal.

Customer Awards 2007

United States Veterans Administration Midwest Network (VISN 23) (Laureate)
To serve veterans who are physically or psychologically at risk, VISN 23 deployed a visual communication network for the delivery of medical services to veterans in VA clinics and in their homes. VISN 23 supports telespych for psychiatric care; teleortho for post-op follow up and consulting; and telederm for skin-related healthcare.

Scott County Schools (Laureate)
A school district in rural Tennessee with less than 3,000 students, Scott County lacked the resources to hire and retain advanced level teachers. Many required classes were held at a single facility, forcing students to bus between schools. A distance learning solution has dramatically streamlined resources, saved hours of bus travel, and still provides a face-to-face educational experience.

San Diego County (Laureate)
The communications, collaboration and information-sharing capabilities enabled by the Regional Command and Control Communications (3Cs) network has enhanced performance of first responders in the southern California area. As a joint initiative between law enforcement and fire-rescue agencies, this unified network is not only providing alternatives to radio communication, but is also encouraging agencies in the area to work together to maximize the region’s resources, especially during large-scale natural disasters or man-made incidents.

University of California Davis (Laureate)
The UC Davis Health System’s Center for Health and Technology (CHT) includes video-based consultations, store-and-forward services, emergency room and intensive care unit consultation, teleradiology, video interpreting, and telehome health. A portable satellite terminal unit that can be transported to sites, including disaster locations without land lines, enables UC Davis to provide expert consultation to individuals in remote areas. The Telemedicine Learning Center has been used to train over 1,000 attendees from more than 400 organizations worldwide in establishing telemedicine programs.
