Learn How to Reduce CO2 Emissions
New green microsite provides the tools
Concern about the environment is mounting. Evidence points to global warming’s impact on droughts, heat waves, floods and rising sea levels. TANDBERG is committed to providing customers with resources to reduce their CO2 emissions.
We believe that organizations must be presented with workable steps that they can take today to reduce their carbon footprint. It might be a program to outfit at-home workers with the tools to stay visually connected. Or, a travel reduction policy that enables your team to offer expertise via video, rather than flying or driving to meetings.
A new TANDBERG “green” portal, www.seegreennow.com, shows you how to get started.
GREEN RESOURCES FOR CUSTOMERS
On www.seegreennow.com, a carbon calculator helps you measure the emissions for your personal travel, as well the impact for your entire organization. A green quiz tests your knowledge of environmental issues. And, stories of TANDBERG customers who have used videoconferencing to reduce their CO2 emissions will inspire you to take action.
Read CEO Fredrik Halvorsen’s perspective on TANDBERG’s green initiatives. Join him in taking a pledge to measure and reduce your own organization’s CO2 levels.
While video did not originate as a “green” technology, as a travel replacement tool it reduces CO2 and benefits the environment. It’s this simple: staying off the roads and out of the skies means adding less CO2 to the atmosphere. For us, it is exciting and humbling that we are not only helping our customers increase productivity and decrease costs, but also become more environmentally-conscious organizations.
It is possible to be environmentally responsible without breaking the bank. Check out www.seegreennow.com to find out how.
THE “GREENING” OF TANDBERG
Within our own organization, TANDBERG is undertaking several initiatives to reduce our carbon footprint.
All electronic components in TANDBERG products currently comply with rigorous Norwegian and EU regulations, both in terms of materials used and of disposal of waste generated in manufacturing. Two EU directives in particular, on Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) and Reduction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS), have been critical to helping companies in member nations improve the European and global environment.
In addition, we are currently conducting a third-party benchmark audit of our environmental record to help us discover additional areas where we can improve.
Sound environmental practices are a work in progress for all of us. As TANDBERG is making environmental improvements in its own operations, we are also calling on all corporations, large and small, to take individual responsibility.
Set a goal of reducing your organization’s CO2 emissions within the next 24 months. Step forward and make changes in your business behavior that will help you reach that goal. Join us in addressing climate change and let us know how we can help you!

Award-winning TANDBERG Customers
Four honored as Computerworld Laureates
Four TANDBERG customers were awarded Laureate status in the 2007 Computerworld Honors Program, a global awards program that recognizes IT initiatives noteworthy for the originality of their conception, breadth of their vision and their impact on society.
The United States Veterans Administration, Scott County Schools, San Diego County and University of California Davis each submitted case studies detailing the positive impact of TANDBERG videoconferencing implementations on their organizations.
The Laureates were honored this June at an awards ceremony and black-tie gala in Washington, DC. Congratulations to all for their accomplishments!
The award-winning programs include:
United States Veterans Administration Midwest Network (VISN 23)
To serve veterans who are physically or psychologically at risk, VISN 23 deployed a visual communication network for the delivery of medical services to veterans in VA clinics and in their homes. VISN 23 supports telespych for psychiatric care; teleortho for post-op follow up and consulting; and telederm for skin-related healthcare.
Scott County Schools
A school district in rural Tennessee with less than 3,000 students, Scott County lacked the resources to hire and retain advanced level teachers. Many required classes were held at a single facility, forcing students to bus between schools. A distance learning solution has dramatically streamlined resources, saved hours of bus travel, and still provides a face-to-face educational experience.
San Diego County
The communications, collaboration and information-sharing capabilities enabled by the Regional Command and Control Communications (3Cs) network has enhanced performance of first responders in the southern California area. As a joint initiative between law enforcement and fire-rescue agencies, this unified network is not only providing alternatives to radio communication, but is also encouraging agencies in the area to work together to maximize the region’s resources, especially during large-scale natural disasters or man-made incidents.
University of California Davis
The UC Davis Health System’s Center for Health and Technology (CHT) includes video-based consultations, store-and-forward services, emergency room and intensive care unit consultation, teleradiology, video interpreting, and telehome health. A portable satellite terminal unit that can be transported to sites, including disaster locations without land lines, enables UC Davis to provide expert consultation to individuals in remote areas. The Telemedicine Learning Center has been used to train over 1,000 attendees from more than 400 organizations worldwide in establishing telemedicine programs.

Stuck in Traffic?
You aren’t alone!
Americans spend more time commuting than on vacation. In Europe the commuting times are even greater than in the U.S., with the United Kingdom having the worst commute in the EU. British commuters have the longest journeys to work, with the average trip taking 45 minutes. That is almost twice as long as the commute faced by Italians and seven minutes more than the EU average.
Whether you are in Moscow, Toronto, Bangkok, or Mexico City, traffic is a global problem that is only getting worse.
Follow "Mr. X" as he struggles to reach his destination despite stressful, time-consuming traffic jams. Wouldn’t videoconferencing be easier? Watch the video now.

So You Have VoIP…
Now what?
Companies that deploy only voice over IP aren’t maximizing their network investment. Once they’ve deployed VoIP, they’ve done all the heavy lifting—and incurred the main network-related costs. Adding on video is simple, delivers numerous productivity benefits, and shortens ROI for that initial IP investment.
Video is the “killer app” for VoIP. A TANDBERG and Frost and Sullivan joint project on video enabling an IP network for video demonstrates the benefits with ROI models and customer examples. Read more.

TANDBERG Telepresence
Experience the difference
Haven't been able to visit one of TANDBERG’s new telepresence rooms yet? Now you can experience the telepresence difference with this online demonstration.
Seeing eye-to-eye takes on a whole new meaning with telepresence. Telepresence creates the most realistic in-person meeting experience and provides an ideal platform for communication and interaction. It makes meeting participants feel as though they're having a conversation with colleagues right across the table – while being miles or continents apart.
- For an immersive telepresence environment, TANDBERG has partnered with HP to market the HP Halo Collaboration Studio. HP Halo interoperability with TANDBERG systems provides an end-to-end managed solution which enables secure, natural and consistent collaboration.
- For a more adaptive solution, TANDBERG offers Experia, a standards-based, across-the-table telepresence experience, which is both easy to install and portable.
- TANDBERG's existing High Definition systems can also deliver telepresence to additional office environments through the HP Halo Video Exchange Network (HVEN). HVEN enables corporate IT departments to greatly expand their video collaboration services without increasing IT staffing. The end result: uncompromised visual experiences that are fully managed by HP.
