Have you been looking for a way to include more people in your video network? Get a first glance at TANDBERG's upcoming product for linking webcam users to an enterprise solution.

Movi makes it possible to offer everyone in an organization – including teleworkers and mobile professionals – a chance to be part of an enterprise-wide videoconferencing solution.

Movi is “one click”: Users need only one click to initiate video calls in one of three ways: a link from an e-mail invite, a permanent link on a corporate intranet, or an address in the searchable Movi directory.

Movi is “one touch”: IT departments do not need to install software on every PC to enable everyone to Movi. They can manage Movi through a centralized network device, making updates, diagnostics and measurement simple.

The TANDBERG Launch Pad offers a first look at Movi’s beta interface and functionality as well as a forum to send us comments and questions. Be sure to check out the site and offer your thoughts.

Since Movi’s announcement in mid-October we’ve already received many detailed responses from the end-user community through this feedback form. Your comments on bandwidth, third-party compatibility and functionality are all being addressed by our product teams. As Movi nears commercial release this spring, we will be updating the information on the Launch Pad and starting to schedule live demonstrations for interested clients. We look forward to hearing from you!

Why Waste Good Content?

Streaming and archiving solution reaches wider audience

Your audience for CEO briefings, training sessions, or human resources programs may be in different locations, and all on different schedules. You can reach them at a time and place convenient for them by recording, archiving and streaming your video content.

We’ve already seen how customers like NYU Medical Center extend educational opportunities to staff while helping them balance their workload. The latest version of the Content Server, enhanced this October, is now simpler to use, links more readily to existing communication tools and management systems, and features tighter security.

You can schedule a demonstration of the latest Content Server by contacting TANDBERG. Software updates for existing Content Server customers with service contracts will be available on October 23rd.

To learn more about how customers are utilizing the Content Server, please check out the archive of TANDBERG’s Webinar.

Key features of the October enhancements include:

  • Simplification for the end-user:
    • Streamlined content creation with customizable templates for recurring meetings.
    • New and improved content editor allows users to set the start/end time for playback, remove conference padding, and join archived recordings together.
    • Expanded search functionality.
    • Personal bookmarks make it easier to access points of interest in the streamed content.
  • Integration with existing tools and management systems:
    • TANDBERG Expressway™ firewall traversal technology built directly into the Content Server.
    • Ability to integrate with current work tools and third party applications through an Application Programming Interface (API).
    • LDAP and Active Directory integration.
  • Enhanced security:
    • Increased control over content viewing and editing.
    • User recognition that controls viewing rights.
    • Role-based user management for users and groups.

Lights, Camera, Action!

Subtle changes make a big impact

Simple adjustments in your video placement, presentation technique, and use of interactive tools can make you a more powerful communicator.

Whether your video unit is in a boardroom, manufacturing floor, office cubicle or home office, there are important considerations to keep in mind:

For Desktop Videoconferencing Units:

  • Video should be a part of your day to day tools, and should be located close to your computer screen. This way you will not need to move during a video call, and you will be able to use your PC and your system at the same time. Depending on your choice of video unit, you may be able to use your system as a PC screen.
  • In an open office environment, use a headset for privacy.

For Meeting Rooms:

  • The microphone should be placed at the front of the table to ensure that all speech will be detected. The best position for the microphone is at least 6.5 feet (approximately 2 meters) in front of the videoconferencing system, on a plain, flat surface with at least 12 inches (0.3 meters) of table in front of it.
  • The document camera should be close to the leader of the meeting or its designated controller for ease of use. Remember to arrange all the peripherals so that one participant can reach each of them to point, change the display, record, or perform other functions during the conference.
  • To help ensure the most natural meeting environment, position the camera on the top center of the receiving monitor. The camera should point directly at the meeting participants to guarantee eye contact with those at the far end.

Background

  • Remember that the camera shows what is behind you. Provide a calming background with a neutral color, medium contrast and soft texture.
  • Avoid moving backgrounds such as curtains in a draft or people walking behind you, as this may both reduce image quality and distract the attention of those on the far end.
  • Do not place the camera facing a doorway.

Lighting

  • Avoid direct light on the subject matter or camera lens as this will create harsh contrasts and shadows.
  • If you have poor lighting in the room, you may need to use indirect, artificial light. Indirect light from shaded sources or reflected light from pale walls often produces excellent results.
  • "Daylight" type lamps are most effective. Avoid colored lighting that might tint your image.

Placement

  • The video system should be placed about two to three feet (60-100cm) away from the person who is speaking, depending on screen size and what feels natural.

Set-up

  • The unit should be set to Automatic Answer, but with the microphone muted.
  • The camera should be located in the top center of your unit.

Loudspeaker Volume

  • The audio system will use the loudspeakers built into the monitor or TANDBERG's Digital Natural Audio Module. The default volume level can be set by adjusting the volume on the monitor using its own remote control.

Brightness Control

  • For adjusting brightness, colors or other settings of the monitor, you must use the monitor's own remote control. Adjust the monitor to suit the conditions of the conference room.

Online Videoconferencing User Tips

Need a quick refresher on how to adjust the camera or screen layouts? Have multi-site capability, but not sure you’ve tried all the features? TANDBERG Training has produced several online videos to help you make better use of your video solution.

TANDBERG Customers Visit Oslo R&D

Share thoughts on product road map

The Oslo visit was capped off with a cruise on the fjord.
This past August, a group of nine TANDBERG users, including enterprises, systems integrators and U.S. federal agencies, had a chance to go into areas of TANDBERG R&D never before seen by any customer.

This second annual group visit of U.S. customers is one of many ongoing forums and visits from customers around the world.

“We had the opportunity to see first hand the people, products and values of the TANDBERG family,” says Joe Mears of Northrop Grumman, who participated in the trip. “Through the various presentations, demonstrations, tours and impromptu meetings we were left with a thorough understanding of TANDBERG's commitment to excellence and customer satisfaction. The casual lunches and dinners were set up in such a way to further the exchange of ideas. I think I gained 5lbs just eating the cookies alone!”

The group traveled to Oslo with Rick Snyder, President Americas, and Joel Brunson, President, U.S. Federal. They met with R&D leadership and engineers directly responsible for the development of endpoints, infrastructure and the TANDBERG Management Suite. In addition to touring R&D operations, customers traveled to the Hapro manufacturing facility, where they saw TANDBERG’s HD cameras and 1700 systems being put together.

For the users, this was a chance to discuss TANDBERG’s product roadmap, ask in-depth questions on product details and offer suggestions for improved feature sets that are essential to their business.

“Our goal was to have an open exchange of ideas, for clients to leave with a better understanding of our direction and our products, but even more importantly, our people and culture,” explains Rick Snyder. TANDBERG’s R&D and sales teams, “took this as an opportunity to ask the customers, ‘can we do something better to help you?’” Joel Brunson adds.

For many of the clients, this was their first trip to Oslo and they enjoyed the chance to see a bit of the culture and scenery – including a dinner cruise on the Oslo fjord.

Customer visits to Oslo continue throughout the year and plans are underway for more group visits with representatives from each theatre.
