TANDBERG Breaks New Ground for the Video Conferencing and Telepresence Industry at VoiceCon 2009

Leading global telepresence and video conferencing provider showcases cutting-edge products, applications, and partnerships

NEW YORK and OSLO, Norway (April 2, 2009) – TANDBERG (OSLO: TAA.OL), the global leader in the telepresence and video conferencing industry, showcased cutting-edge innovation, applications and partnerships at VoiceCon 2009, the premier event for enterprise IP Telephony, converged networks, and unified communications, held in Orlando, Fla., from March 30 to April 2, 2009.

TANDBERG demonstrated an industry first when it enabled a 1080p60 live video call during its public technology demonstration of TANDBERG FluidHD. Surpassing industry capabilities for combined motion and visual resolution, TANDBERG FluidHD will not only advance applications in industries such as healthcare and manufacturing that require the absolute best quality of detail and motion for video communications, it sets a new standard for the future of telepresence and video conferencing.

In addition to unveiling TANDBERG FluidHD, the company featured its industry-leading portfolio of personal video conferencing and telepresence solutions, including the award-winning E20 video IP phone; Movi, a high-definition PC video conferencing application, and the TANDBERG Profile high-definition room-based video conferencing system.

Andrew W. Davis, Sr. Partner and Co-founder of Wainhouse Research, said, "TANDBERG has shown an impressive range of video and integration solutions that address a wide range of enterprise needs for visual communications without compromising on performance. The company continues to drive innovation and has given us a glimpse into the future of video conferencing and telepresence with its unprecedented public technology demonstration of 1080p60."

Underscoring the importance of video in unified communications, several TANDBERG partners featured TANDBERG solutions during keynote addresses and at their VoiceCon venues:

  • During Microsoft's keynote speech on Wed., April 1, TANDBERG was mentioned as a part of the Microsoft R2 unified communications ecosystem. Microsoft and TANDBERG have partnered to integrate presence-based Instant Messaging and web collaboration from Microsoft, with powerful telepresence and high-definition video solutions from TANDBERG. Among other benefits of this strategic alliance, the interoperability between Microsoft OCS and TANDBERG solutions makes it possible for TANDBERG personal and room-based video systems to be registered and authenticated either directly or through the TANDBERG Video Communication Server. Most recently, the two companies announced that the TANDBERG PrecisionHD USB camera, available in June 2009, is the first webcam to offer 720p high-definition with 30 frames per second for business-quality live video communications over Microsoft R2.
  • Highlighting the strategic alliance between IBM and TANDBERG, IBM demonstrated interoperability between its Lotus Sametime® video client and the TANDBERG E20 video IP phone during the company’s keynote address. The integration of TANDBERG and IBM applications connects organizations through secure electronic communications, media-rich information exchange, and real-time visual communication, increasing productivity and face-to-face collaboration.
  • Dimension Data announced that TANDBERG video solutions have been integrated into the company’s successful deployment of Integrated Collaboration (IC), a unified communications solution Dimension Data developed to streamline the time, cost and effort associated with business communications and collaborative processes. IC has helped Dimension Data Americas' geographically dispersed workforce maximize productivity by allowing employees to connect, communicate and collaborate without traveling -- contributing to a 49 percent reduction in travel costs year over year. In Dimension Data’s announcement, Daniel O'Connell, research director for Gartner, said, "By integrating communication channels from multiple vendors, Dimension Data's Integrated Collaboration solution delivers real-time interaction without requiring room reservation for the video component. These types of collaboration solutions yield productivity gains to the mobile and home-based workforce as corporations streamline their office space. We are increasingly seeing video collaboration as an effective tool for reducing travel costs in today's belt-tightening economy."
  • Other partner demonstrations from Verizon, Siemens, BroadSoft and HP showcased TANDBERG’s focus on interoperability as well as the TANDBERG managed services portfolio.
